  Positive and negative   A black vase or two white faces.  The negative space are white profiles surrounding the positive space- the black vase. Positive and negative space play an important role in determining the overall composition in a work of art.  By understanding positive and negative space and applying your knowledge, Simply put, positive space is best described as the areas in a work of art that are the subjects, or areas of interest. Negative space is area around the subjects, or areas of interest. the white area as the positive space. The black areas become the negative space. Usually the positive space is the object(s) you draw, and the negative space is the background that surrounds it. The negative space can be an effective tool to define your center of interest.

                   Storm Damaged Tree in Wales Sculpted into a Hand   The tallest tree in Wales had been storm damaged and was due to be felled, and that Natural Resource Wales, who were in charge of the site, were going to commission an artist to carve the tree. Apparently if  you'd like to get a sculpture like this , you'd have to pay arou nd $12000.T his 50 ft wooden sculpture is called Giant Hand of Vyrnwy.  The artist who made this sculpture . said that  “My designs were chosen and I immediately got to work planning. Scaffold was needed to make it safe to work on, and the terrain was such a difficult one that it took two days to erect the scaffold!” explains the artist. “Six days of intense work followed using chainsaws and grinders. I needed to add two pieces for the thumb and little finger, as the tree wasn’t wide enough to form the whole han d.   As I lift my head up and open my mouth, my voice escalates with every tune that comes out. The soothing words bounce off of my tongue and release the tension held within. Even if the sounds aren’t perfect or correct, every little bit helps me get through the day. When stressed, nothing helps me more than singing. My passion for choir singing comes from deep within my soul, mind and heart. When I sing, I sing with all of me, putting everything I can into it. I have always had a great passion for singing, ever since I was a kid. Singing in a choir at any time in your life can be a very moving experience. Your one individual voice combined with others creates this feeling of oneness and community through songs in harmony. Everyone in the room becomes connected on many levels.
